Hair Loss Treatments |

Propecia – (Manufactured by Merck & Co.) This is by far the most effective treatment. Studies have shown up to 66% of men demonstrating some regrowth after 12 to 18 months. This product requires taking a 1mg. pill daily. It works by blocking the formation of DHT (the male hormone) from binding with the hair follicle. This appears to interrupt the development of male pattern hair loss in men. The generic name is Finasteride and is also used for prostate enlargement under the brand name Proscar. (Not recommended for women.)

Rogaine Extra Strength contains 5% Minoxidil, the only FDA approved topical treatment for hair loss. In clinical studies, four out of five users claimed Rogaine helped slow or stop their hair loss. Rogaine Extra Strength has 45% more regrowth than regular strength. This means that there is enhanced penetration of the hairs follicle and significantly more hair growth - results may occur in as soon as 2 months.
Rogaine is applied directly to the scalp in the hair loss area twice daily; for example, once in the morning and once at night. The night-time application should occur 2-4 hours before bed to allow for drying. Each bottle should last about 25-30 days, if used as directed. Since normal hair grows only 1/2 to 1 inch per month, hair regrowth with Rogaine takes some time. Continued use of Rogaine twice a day for at least four months is usually needed before you notice hair regrowth. You will need to continue use of Rogaine to maintain the hair regrowth.
